Shih Tzus, with their distinctive appearance and charismatic personality,

They are a true symbol of elegance and companionship in the canine world. This intelligent and charming breed has captivated hearts around the world, consolidating itself as a favorite in Brazilian families, both for its adaptability and its exceptional beauty. With a luxurious coat that can be styled in many ways and an expression that displays unparalleled sweetness, Shih Tzus are not just pets, but true family members, offering joy and companionship wherever they go.

Variety and Beauty

The Shih Tzu presents an incredible variety of colors and patterns in its luxurious coat, which can range from pure white to intense black, with many multicolored combinations in between. This lush coat not only serves as a visual highlight that highlights the breed's unique beauty, but also as protection against environmental conditions, reflecting the Shih Tzu's adaptation to different climates. Each Shih Tzu is distinctive, with a sweet facial expression that is enhanced by the coat that frames its face like a chrysanthemum flower, further highlighting the breed's charming personality.

Intelligence and Affectionate Temperament

Shih Tzus are not just a vision of beauty with their flowing coats and charming expressions; They are also recognized for their intelligence and extremely affectionate temperament. These little dogs are eager to learn and have a great willingness to please their owners, which makes them surprisingly easy to train. Additionally, they develop a deep and loving connection with family members, which makes them devoted companions and often protectors of their homes. The Shih Tzu's sweet and loyal nature reinforces its role as a loving, integral member of the family.

Longevity and Health

Shih Tzus are known for their remarkable longevity, often providing their owners with the joy of their company for many years. This admirable characteristic, however, comes with the need for ongoing care and vigilance regarding specific health conditions that are common to the breed. Careful attention to genetic predispositions for problems such as respiratory issues, due to their flat face, and eye problems, requires a commitment from owners to ensure that these beloved pets enjoy a healthy and happy life. Maintaining a regular routine of veterinary check-ups and a proper lifestyle are essential for maintaining their health and well-being.

Did you know that Shih-tzus have a genetic tendency to develop some specific diseases?

Corneal ulcer

A corneal ulcer, or ulcerative keratitis, is a lesion that occurs on the cornea, the transparent region at the front of the eye. This condition can be superficial or deep and is especially common in Shih Tzu dogs, due to their brachycephalic conformation that exposes more of the eyes. When symptoms such as redness in the conjunctiva, pain and closing of the eyelids appear, it is crucial to perform a complete ophthalmic examination. The fluorescein test, which highlights the lesion in green, is essential to determine the extent and depth of the ulcer and define the appropriate treatment, whether clinical or surgical.

Otitis

Otitis is an inflammation that can affect different parts of the dog's ear canal, classified as external, middle or internal. In Shih Tzus, the long, dense coat around the ears creates ideal conditions for the proliferation of mites, fungi and bacteria due to humidity and heat. Furthermore, this breed's floppy ears prevent good air circulation, making drying difficult and increasing the risk of ear infections. Symptoms such as itching, peeling, redness and swelling of the ears, as well as increased wax production, are warning signs that require careful investigation. Complementary exams such as scrapings, cytology and culture are essential for an accurate diagnosis and definition of appropriate treatment.

Urinary Stones

Urolithiasis, known as urinary calculi, occurs when crystals become concentrated forming a solid mass, or urolith, in any part of the urinary system. These can be composed of different minerals, such as calcium oxalate, struvite and silica, with Shih Tzu dogs being particularly predisposed to developing these types of stones. The formation of uroliths can be influenced by several factors, including breed, sex, diet and individual health conditions. Animals with urolithiasis may exhibit symptoms that require immediate evaluation. Diagnosis is generally made through a urinalysis, including culture and antibiogram, as well as ultrasound and X-ray of the urinary system, allowing appropriate treatment and management for each specific case.

Dental Calculations

The formation of dental calculus in Shih Tzus occurs mainly due to the accumulation of bacterial plaque and minerals on the surface of the teeth, a situation exacerbated by the specific cranial anatomy and configuration of the dental arch of this breed. These deposits can lead to serious conditions such as periodontitis, resulting in bone resorption and tooth loss, and even endocarditis, an inflammation of the heart structures. Therefore, it is crucial to adopt adequate oral hygiene practices, which include the use of specific foods to reduce the formation of tartar and a regular tooth brushing routine to maintain the animal's oral health.

Testimonials from Satisfied Customers

Since introducing Collagen Stick Umami into Bella, my Shih Tzu's daily routine, I have noticed an impressive transformation in her general well-being. She, who previously showed some slowness and difficulty in getting up, now shows remarkable vivacity. Collagen Stick not only helped strengthen his joints, but also made his coat shinier and healthier. I am very satisfied with the results of the Umami products and happy to see Bella enjoying a better quality of life. I highly recommend it to other Shih Tzu owners!
